This
typical springhouse was mostly constructed below ground with a door and
window on the exposed side.
The cottage and the
second floor over the springhouse were added in the 1940s and contain a
living room with fireplace; two bedrooms; full bath; and a kitchen over
the springhouse. The spring in the springhouse is fully functional. It
is constructed around the perimeter of the floor with a concrete island
in the middle. The spring varies in depth to accommodate different sized
items from gallon jars to large milk cans.
The plan is to restore
the springhouse to its original state by removing the cottage and the
second floor over the spring; and constructing a new roof on the
remaining springhouse foundation.
